Meet the Dean: Walter E. Wright

Associate Provost and Dean of the College

Dean WrightProfessor Wright has served on the faculty at Clark since 1968, and has taught ethics, the history of philosophy, and German Idealism.  He has published articles on Johann Gottlieb Fichte and on ethical issues surrounding the problem of euthanasia.  His most recent scholarly contribution is a translation of Fichte’s 1804 lectures on his fundamental philosophy (The Science of Knowing: J.G. Fichte’s Lectures on the Wissenschaftslehre, Delivered between April 16 and June 8, 1804, SUNY Press, Spring 2005).  

Professor Wright has been active in faculty governance and curriculum planning, and has served multiple terms on every major committee. He has served as chair of the Philosophy Department, and served twice as dean of the college, once in 1970 as a fill-in and the other for a full term from 1980 to 1982.

Professor Wright received his AB degree from Yale College in 1965, his master’s degree from Vanderbilt University in 1968, and his doctorate from Vanderbilt in 1971.
